Are permits required for filming?
In general, you will need to apply for a permit and provide information about their production.
🛤️ Unincorporated Communities
If you are interested in filming in the “unincorporated areas” of Sonoma County, no film permit is required.
You may, however, need to file for a special events permit with Permit Sonoma. This permit is usually only required for activities such as, but not limited to, the use of drones, altering the land, time requirements, blocking public roads, use of pyrotechnics, etc.
🏙️ Incorporated Cities
For film permits in the incorporated areas of Sonoma County, each city is responsible for issuing its own permits.
Generally, filmmakers will need to apply for a permit and provide information about their production, such as the dates, locations, and number of crew members. There may also be fees associated with obtaining permits, and filmmakers may need to provide proof of insurance.
Film permit requirements and procedures will vary from city to city.
